Question: I bought a transmission module for a 1996 Mercury Sable that a diagnostic test said was the problem, but I can't locate where the module is on the transmission. Haynes book does not show and auto parts store did not know either. Do you know?
- Martha
Answer: Martha, Thanks for the question. First I would question the diagnostic test due to the fact that there is no transmission module in either of the transmissions used for that year. The module that controls the transmission is the same module that controls the engine. This is the Powertrain Control Module or (PCM) that is located in the right rear corner of the engine compartment, mounted in the cowl. Was there a problem with the transmission
or the "CHECK ENGINE" light came on? Auto parts stores will check
computers for codes at no charge. This information only identifies an area to be tested. We would be happy to check this problem for you.

Question: You can tell I\'m desperate if I\'m searching the Internet for an answer.
My 98 Sunfire, which has about 144,000km on it, quit on the highway last Friday. I stepped on the gas, and there was no gas there.
The garage has run every diagnostics test known I think. It has the appropriate pressure for bringing gas into the engine, it is not the fuel pump, filter, gas filter, or module.
The tool suggested the computer and they got a second hand one and had it \"flashed\" for the car, and it still does not work.
The car will turn over and sometimes you can go forward a bit, or it gets nothing at all.
They are at the end of their rope, and I really can\'t afford another computer just on the chances that the replacement one was bad.
Where should they be looking now?

Answer: This is a question that we would really need the vehicle to run some tests, but since you are in Canada and we are here in Illinois, we can only try to give you some advice.
One problem that does occur in your type of car is broken wires in the wiring harness. You should have your mechanic test for proper voltages and grounds.
Hope this helps.

Question: I just had my inner tire rod replaced, brake rotors and front brakes done about 1 month ago. now on the same side when i go to make a turn there is a slight knocking sound. what could this be? also sometimes the car shifts hard. 1996 mercury sable
- Kristina
Answer: Kristina,
This sound could be caused by a lot of different items. If the mileage is around 100,000 miles it could be a front drive axle
joint that's worn. We would be happy to test drive your vehicle to diagnose. Please
call or email for an appointment. Thanks
