From automotive to trivia, Larry can find the answer.
We often see a vehicle for the first time after other shops are unable to make a satisfactory repair. Since we have in business since 1939, we have seen many unusual problems and have a wealth of experience to call on. We also have access to other data bases and information sources. We pride ourselves in being able to repair almost anything that comes through our doors.
Now you can take advantage of our experience. We encourage you to submit a question to our expert. Of course, some problems need to have an inspection and diagnosis of the vehcile, so we won't be able to answer everthing, but we'll give it a try.
And it doesn't have to be just an automotive question. We'll try to answer anything you submit. Our expert has a wide variety of knowledge. So give us a chance.
If your question may have some interest to others, we will post it below for all to see.

Question: Hi Larry
I have Nissan Sentra 04 model. The car is in good condition although after it went through a accident earlier this year its having a weird problem where I am not able to fill gas in the car at normal speed at gas pump. It takes only 1 gallon at time at normal speed and then trips or I have pump at real slow speed.
Do you know what might be the problem.
Thanks

Answer: I'll start out with a question. Did the accident damage the area near the fuel tank or filler neck. If not the problem may be related to a part of the emission system that holds the gas vapors. There is a system of valves and a charcoal canister that may not be letting air into the tank while filling. This will require testing to determine the source of the blockage. The two main causes of this are usually the "canister vent control valve" or the "vent valve". But the "charcoal canister" and "refueling control valve" are also known to cause a slow refueling problem.
I don't want to get to technical, but the test procedure is to remove the vapor line between the Evap canister and the fuel tank. Try putting fuel in the tank. If the tank fills normally there is a restriction in the canister or the canister vent. If there is no change in filling the tank, remove the vent hose from the fuel tank. If no change, the problem is in the refueling Evap vapor cut valve/refueling control valve in the fuel tank.
Sorry there wasn't a simple answer but I hope this helps.

Question: hi larry, my question is my 2002 crysler 300 m is making sort of a howling hollow noise in the engine, i dont know what it could be. i hope i described the noise good enough. thanks so much for your kindness
- Kathy
Answer: Kathy, It's hard to diagnose a noise by describing it. Even hearing the noise it may be hard to determine the cause. If the noise is in fact coming from the engine it may be causing damage. I suggest that the car be taken to a qualified automotive technician to hear it. This noise could be a belt, water pump, alternator or some other internal part. Does the noise change with engine speed or road speed? Does the noise happen cold (on first start up) or hot (after running a while)? Is there any driveability problem related to the noise? Many Questions need to be answered. Please don't wait too long to have this noise diagnoised.

Question: 1999 Ford Taurus. 6 cyl, 3L
My power steering was low, getting stiff when driving, and the pump was making noise. I added power steering fluid, later I found out it it is supposed to use Mercon ATF instead. Now it foams and pours out the top of the pump at the cap if I run it very long. The level also drops low when the pump is run when the engine just starts. If I continue to run it it starts to rise and overflows. If I don\'t let it overflow it returns back to full on the dip stick. What should be done?
> Thanks,

Answer: Aaron, The power steering should be flushed with the correct fluid. Also
there have been problems with bleeding the air out after filling. This
sometimes requires a special cap for the reservoir for bleeding. Sometimes
slowly turning the steering wheel right and left stop to stop will remove
air. In the worst case the pump may need to be replaced.
